I’m taking part in the 2026 Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids and making an extra contribution by raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal.
Since 1931 the Good Friday Appeal has been raising money to enable The Royal Children’s Hospital to continue to give children their brightest futures.
I’m running this for Luca 🩵💙🩵
A message from Julia & Shana Sorrentino:
Luca was born with a congenital condition called an omphalocele, an abdominal wall defect that develops early in pregnancy. Because of this, some of his organs formed outside his body, enclosed within a protective membrane.
Luca’s journey began far earlier than expected. Born prematurely with fragile, underdeveloped lungs, he has spent his life so far intubated and supported by life-saving medical care. Yet, despite every challenge, Luca has faced each battle with extraordinary resilience, his tiny lungs growing stronger day by day.
Luca's medical team use a specialised “paint and wait” treatment, where the omphalocele is carefully redressed each week to encourage natural skin growth and healing. This slow, delicate process gives Luca the best chance to thrive.
When Luca is older and strong enough, he will undergo major closure surgery so his organs can be safely placed inside his body.
As his mums we are amazed each day at the strength he shows and can’t wait for the day he’s home.

Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal Ltd
The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal (Good Friday Appeal) brings together people from all parts of the community to raise money for the benefit of The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Funds raised support research, state-of-the-art equipment, education and training, and family centred care programs.
