Story
Being born with one hand, The Royal Children’s Hospital was a huge part of my childhood - and shaped my adulthood.
My parents and sister had only moved to Australia a couple of years before I was born, and had no idea how to navigate such a complicated system.
But the Specialists, Doctors and Occupational Therapists at the Royal Children’s were such a huge support! I remember going in at 4 years old right up until I was 18, having tests done, being fitting for a prosthetic, getting casts done. Going to the OT, being shown how to ride a bike, pick up toys, use cutlery. I remember it all.
But the one thing I remember most, is the care and support I felt from my team. Thirty years later, I still remember all my specialists names, and what they did for me, both physically and mentally, it was always so positive!
The team at the Royal Children’s Hospital built up my confidence, and gave me the strength to be the outgoing, confident and capable woman I am today.

The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal (Good Friday Appeal) brings together people from all parts of the community to raise money for the benefit of The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Funds raised support research, state-of-the-art equipment, education and training, and family centred care programs.
